Grand Rapids, MI (July 20, 2023) - Deputies are searching for two additional suspects after a stolen vehicle collided with another driver in Grand Rapids on Thursday morning, July 20.
Around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a complaint of a stolen vehicle in Ada Township on Village Spring Drive SE, north of Ada Drive. Police say that a black Ford SUV with the keys inside was stolen from the area.
A deputy saw the SUV on Lake Eastbrook Boulevard, and the sheriff's office released footage from the dashboard camera that showed the motorist taking off and turning north onto the East Beltline. The deputy followed the driver, and shortly thereafter, the Ford struck a westbound vehicle at Burton Street SE after running two red lights. The second vehicle overturned and landed in the median, and the driver of the stolen SUV fled the scene.
The driver of the second car, a 25-year-old Grand Rapids resident, was reportedly treated at the hospital, per the sheriff's office. Police later found the suspect and detained three of the five suspects.
The two other suspects' descriptions were withheld by deputies, but the search for the suspects and the investigation continue.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
