Lansing, MI (July 19, 2023) - After at least two collisions occurred on Sunday afternoon, July 16, westbound Interstate 96 was shut down by officers with the Lansing Police Department.
At around 3:15 p.m. in the afternoon, I-96 near Saginaw Road and Delta Township was blocked due to multiple accidents. Eaton County officials, together with the LPD, recommended motorists to avoid the roadway as they closed off the area and began their on-site investigation.
The total number of victims and the severity of their injuries remains unknown, but LPD requested assistance from local EMTs to assist those involved in the wreck.
The highway was reopened around 4:30 p.m., though officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Additional details are slated for release by the end of the week.
