In 2017, head-on crashes had a fatality rate of nearly 58 percent, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. A head-on collision is more likely to occur in a rural area, and in these locations, frontal impacts account for 13 percent of all fatal collisions. Less than 7 percent of fatal collisions in metropolitan areas are head-on collisions, according to the most recent accident statistics.Losing a loved one will always be painful for those closest to the victim. When the loss was the result of another person's negligence, it can be very distressing. In the state of Michigan, a wrongful death is one that was brought on by someone else's carelessness. A lawyer can help you determine if you can pursue a wrongful death claim after an untimely death. Like in other types of personal injury suits, the plaintiff must first establish that the defendant owed the decedent a duty of care to the decedent. This essentially means that the defendant had a responsibility to look out for the decedent's best interests and overall well-being at the time of the accident. This can be proven if a driver breaks a law or operates a vehicle recklessly. They have violated their obligation if they do not follow the law and behave safely and reasonably.
