Sumpter Twp, MI (May 31, 2023) - One woman was killed, and another was injured after a hit-and-run in Sumpter Township on Sunday, May 28.
The fatal accident was reported on Sumpter Road at around 8:30 p.m. It was revealed that several people were leaving a residence on the roadway when a 43-year-old Detroit man left the home in a reckless manner. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle and hit two women in the group.
The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. A Rockford woman who was hit was pinned by the vehicle and was later pronounced deceased. The other victim, a 39-year-old woman from Plainfield, New Jersey, was injured and hospitalized for treatment.
The at-fault driver was later located and apprehended by authorities. He is now facing charges related to the incident.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly accident is in progress.
