Leroy Twp, MI (May 31, 2023) - A man in a work zone was killed after being hit by a motor vehicle in Leroy Township on Thursday, May 25.
The fatal accident was reported on Grand River Avenue near M-52 at around 2:00 p.m. Local sources revealed that an eastbound vehicle hit 70-year-old James Earl Lockwood of Hillsdale County as he was directing traffic in a work zone. Lockwood sustained serious injuries and was trapped underneath the vehicle. He had to be rescued by responding paramedics.
Lockwood was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The 23-year-old driver of the vehicle was also hurt and treated for sustained injuries.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is in progress.
