Wrong-way crashes involve automobiles traveling in opposite directions on divided highways or ramps. These types of crashes are some of the most dangerous and frequently result in fatalities. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, wrong-way collisions resulted in 430 fatalities annually on average nationwide between 2010 and 2018. Nearly half of these fatalities were the wrong-way driver at fault, and most of these motorists were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
