Statistics show that head-on collisions had a nearly 58 percent fatality rate in 2017, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. These types of crashes make up 13% of all fatal collisions and are more frequent in rural areas of the United States. Head-on collisions account for less than 7% of fatal collisions in cities while still making up roughly 10% of traffic fatalities overall.
