Detroit, MI (February 24, 2022) - The Detroit Fire Department responded to the scene of a fatal house fire on Thursday, February 24th on the city’s west side.
According to sources, the fire broke out at about 8:10 a.m. at a single-family home on Cherokee Street in the area of Telegraph Road and 8 Mile Road in Detroit.
An elderly couple, Robert and Christine McCoy, was trapped inside the residence.
Upon their arrival, rescuers found Christine already deceased. Robert was still conscious but struggling to survive. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators said the fire appears to have started in the basement but the cause is undetermined.
