Detroit, MI (February 13, 2022) - Michigan State Police stated that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle after a multi-car crash on Detroit’s west side. The incident happened on Sunday, February 13.
Sources say that troopers responded to the scene located in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 96 near Grand River after receiving information about a person being sent to the hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators stated that the victim had been involved in a previous crash. When the driver got out of their vehicle to inspect the damage, their vehicle was pushed into them by another car on the road.
The victim was then pushed into a wall and transported to an area medical center with critical head injuries. Michigan State Police are currently investigating the incident.
We hope for the full recovery of the injured victim. Nothing further has been reported.
As reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 129,000 people in the United States required emergency room visits in one recent year for treatment of injuries they sustained during pedestrian-involved accidents. Additionally, another 5,376 pedestrians died as a result of their injuries. Pedestrians are almost twice as likely to die during a car crash than the occupant of a vehicle, and if they do manage to survive being struck by a car, they usually have a very long period of recovery to endure.
It is imperative that drivers remain vigilant when it comes to noticing pedestrians in the area. Most of these accidents happen because drivers are simply not watching for pedestrians and do not notice them crossing the road, stepping into a crosswalk, or walking on the side of the road.
Accidents involving pedestrians produce more fatalities and more injured victims than any other kind of car accident. Since pedestrians are completely vulnerable, they typically sustain injuries that are more critical than any vehicle occupant. This is why it is important to solicit reputable legal counsel if you for a family member suffered an injury or lost their life to the carelessness of a driver.
