Sterling Heights, MI (February 11, 2022) - On Thursday morning, February 10, a 29-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a car in Macomb County.
Initial reports state that the fatal wreck happened at approximately 4:15 a.m. just north of 17 Mile Road on Mound Road in Sterling Heights. The man, a Detroit resident, was hit by a car when he was trying to cross Mound Road.
The pedestrian suffered catastrophic injuries and was pronounced deceased on-site by medical professionals. The vehicle involved was driven by a 21-year-old man who stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police.
Mound was shut down in the southbound direction between 19 Mile and 17 Mile as crews worked to clear the scene. Nothing further has been reported concerning the crash or its circumstances.
Our thoughts are with those involved. We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Across the country, pedestrian fatalities are on the rise. On the contrary, passenger vehicle fatalities are currently declining. Information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that pedestrians are approximately 1.5 times more likely to lose their lives if involved in a traffic accident than the occupants of a passenger vehicle. Pedestrians are unprotected if involved in a wreck, making them the most vulnerable travelers on the road at any given time.
