Highland Park, MI (January 9, 2022) - On Saturday night, January 8, a two-vehicle collision in Highland Park involving a fire truck left one person dead and another injured. The deadly crash took place at the intersection of Davison Freeway and Oakland Street at around 11 p.m.
There were firetrucks with their emergency lights on stationed at the intersection assisting two other vehicles that were in the embankment. A 1996 Ford Explorer traveling westbound lost control and crashed into one of the fire engines. Emergency responders had to cut the driver out of the vehicle and perform lifesaving aid.
The 57-year-old Detroit driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was hospitalized for the treatment of sustained injuries. No additional information has been provided.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal crash is underway.
