Detroit, MI (December 20, 2021) - At about 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 20, a major auto accident caused injuries and shut down a portion of an interstate in Detroit. Officials promptly responded to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 near I-75 to assist at the scene.
According to preliminary reports concerning the crash, it took place when an SUV was driving recklessly on the interstate before it was involved in a collision with a semi-truck. When police arrived on-site, they found the Dodge SUV on fire and the semi blocking the left and center lanes of I-94.
Troopers were later informed that the SUV had been stolen from the Detroit airport. Police from the airport added that four other vehicles had been stolen in a recent incident that is suspected to be related.
Both the driver and passenger of the SUV sustained injuries and were transported to an area medical center for treatment. The passenger sustained a compound fracture to his leg and burns, while the driver had a head laceration.
