Utica, MI (December 16, 2021) - As previously reported, a Utica Community Schools bus driver was arrested on Tuesday, December 14 after the bus she was driving was found off of the roadway where it had run into a street sign.
Police in Sterling Heights stated that the bus was occupied by 30-40 students from Henry Ford II High School at the time. The crash happened at about 4:00 p.m., sources said. After suspecting that the bus driver was intoxicated, police performed a breath test. They found her blood alcohol content to be 0.10. The legal limit for driving in Michigan is 0.08. She was arrested on-site for driving under the influence.
The collision occurred near Hall and Schoenherr Roads. Initially, it was reported that none of the students were injured, however, recent information indicates that a boy was hurt in the crash. He sustained an internal brain bleed in the back of his head as well as a serious concussion, according to information from his family.
The boy remains in the hospital recovering at this time. His identity has not been reported.
Authorities in Utica continue to investigate.
