Sterling Heights, MI (December 15, 2021) - A school bus driver in Michigan was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after she crashed the bus she was driving. It was occupied by 30 to 40 students at the time, according to reports.
Information from the Sterling Heights Police Department indicated that the incident occurred on Hall Road near Schoenherr Road at approximately 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 14. A female was driving a Utica Community Schools bus carrying Henry Ford II High School students when it left the roadway and struck a street sign.
The driver was arrested after police detected a strong smell of alcohol on her breath. A breath test found her blood-alcohol limit to be 0.10, above Michigan’s legal limit of 0.08 for driving.
She was immediately arrested and transported to the Sterling Heights Police Department for questioning. Her name has not been released at this time.
Another bus from Utica County Schools was sent to the scene to finish the bus route and take the students home. Nothing further has been reported at this time as authorities in Sterling Heights continue to investigate.
