Kalamazoo, MI (December 5, 2021) - An investigation is currently underway in the determination of why a vehicle struck an ambulance with its emergency lights activated in Kalamazoo. The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, November 28, according to reports from officials.
Information provided by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety indicated that a critical patient was receiving care inside the ambulance at the time of the wreck. Emergency personnel and police officers responded to the scene shortly after the wreck took place.
The crash happened on Whites Road near South Westnedge Avenue just before 9:30 p.m., Sunday. When responders arrived at the scene, they found an ambulance and a car that had collided at the intersection.
A second ambulance was dispatched to the scene to continue the transportation of the critical patient. A third ambulance was then called to assist the victims injured in the collision.
All injuries that stemmed from the accident were believed to be non-life-threatening in nature. Whether the person who was already in critical condition in the initial ambulance suffered any other injuries has not been reported.
