Walking is a fundamental method of transportation that everyone can enjoy. It is cost-effective and good for the earth. Walking is a great way to burn calories, make friends in your area, and is the only way a lot of people have to get from Point A to Point B or reach public transportation. With so many obvious benefits, it is easy to overlook the fact that being a pedestrian can actually be very dangerous.
Along with untimely deaths, pedestrian accidents are also more likely to cause critical injuries due to the vulnerable nature of pedestrians. They have no helmets or seatbelts to protect them. They are not enclosed in tempered glass and steel, and they do not have the safety of an airbag.
More than 70,000 pedestrians are injured or killed in traffic accidents nationwide every year. In Michigan, roughly 2,500 pedestrians were involved in car accidents in 2019 and, of those, 149 of them ultimately died.
If you or a family member have been injured or killed in a pedestrian accident in Michigan, you could be entitled to financial compensation for your damages.
