Walking is a basic method of transportation that is available to everyone. It is both economical and good for the environment. Walking is a good way to get some exercise, make friends in your neighborhood, and is the only way many people have to get from one place to another or access public transportation. With so many undeniable benefits, it is easy to forget that being a pedestrian can actually be very dangerous.
Over 70,000 pedestrians are injured or killed in traffic accidents nationwide every year. In Michigan, roughly 2,500 pedestrians were involved in car accidents in 2019 and, of those, 149 of them ultimately died.
In addition to untimely deaths, pedestrian accidents are also more likely to result in serious injuries due to the vulnerable nature of pedestrians. They have no helmets or seatbelts to protect them. They are not encased in tempered glass and metal, and they do not have the security of an airbag.
If you or a family member have been injured or killed in a pedestrian accident in Michigan, you could be entitled to financial compensation for your damages.
