Otisco Township, MI (November 19, 2021) - Three passengers and a driver were sent to the hospital with serious injuries after the vehicle they were in struck a tree head-on on Saturday, November 13. At approximately 9:00 p.m., Iona County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a single-car accident on Fred Meijer Rail Trail.
Reports indicate that the wreck occurred near North Whites Bridge Road and 5 Mile Road. The cause of the incident remains under local law enforcement investigation at this time.
Authorities said that the Oldsmobile Alero was carrying four teenage passengers at the time of the crash. It was being driven by a male 17-year-old Gowen resident who swerved the vehicle to avoid striking a branch in the road before crashing.
All passengers were seriously injured in the wreck, however, they are all expected to make full recoveries. Paramedics transported the four teens to area medical centers to be treated for the injuries they sustained.
The collision remains under local police investigation at this time. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
