Melrose Township, MI (November 18, 2021) - Two men died on Monday, November 15th when an airplane that had taken off from the Boyne City airport dropped off the radar and crashed in Michigan.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the accident took place at about 1:25 p.m. near the Boyne Valley-Melrose Township line.
Officials from the state, Boyne City, Charlevoix County, and Melrose Township responded to the area.
A Michigan State Police helicopter from Lansing found the downed plane in a forested area near Romaniak Road in Melrose Township, officials said.
The bodies of the pilot, a resident of Pontiac, and a 21-year-old resident of Howell, were located inside the Beechcraft King Air airplane.
They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
