In Michigan, statistics have shown that many defective household products are causing injuries. According to the CPSC, or Consumer Product Safety Commission, injuries that were reported to their company jumped 141% in just the first quarter of 2017. Consumers need to be aware of any household products that may cause injury and death, as well as what to do if someone is hurt or killed due to a defective product.

There are four household products categories that contribute to more than 75% of all consumer products recalled, according to Stericylce’s Recall Index. Products that topped the list are children’s supplies, toys, electronics, furniture, sports equipment, common household items, and outdoor gear.

Personal Injury Increases due to Hazardous Products

Household products that are dangerous or defective can result in many serious injuries to infants, children and adults. They may even be the cause of long term and permanent injuries, and in worst case scenarios, death. Injuries that can and have occurred include the following:

Spinal Cord Injuries

A spinal cord injury is very serious. An injury to the spinal cord can result in mild to severe loss of mobility and function, with paralysis a possible result for many. All spinal injuries fall under either a complete or incomplete category and should be addressed immediately with legal representation.

Traumatic Brain Injuries

An instance that results in a traumatic brain injury can result in a large array of symptoms and irreversible physical deterioration. In Michigan, victims and their families should always look for legal representation for traumatic brain injuries caused by defective or faulty household items.

Broken Bones and/or Fractures

Defective or faulty household items may also cause broken bones and fractures in victims. While an injury may not seem severe at first, blood vessel, nerve, and tissue damage is a possibility with a broken bone or fracture. Serious damage may occur if these issues are not taken care of. Legal counsel should be immediately sought after if the victim is suffering from a fracture or broken bone.

Stay Safe in Your Home

Before buying any product, it is always a prudent idea to check to see if it has been recalled. Researching products first that one plans to buy is always the best way to make sure that a product isn’t an accident waiting to happen. When an accident does occur in Michigan due to a faulty or defective household product, it is crucial to contact a lawyer.
